When Should You Start Vlogging?
What is Vlogging?
Blogging + Video Log = Vlogging
If you still don't understand after looking at that equation, well...here it is. Vlogging is the speaking, live action, camera facing, interactive version of blogging. Similarly to blogging it can be about anything, what food you ate this morning, where you are travelling to, your gym progress, you name it. Many people out there think vlogging is quite easy and a good way of making a name for themselves...well it doesn't work that way. This blog will cover some of the things that will make you a great vlogger (in my opinion!). So, when should you start vlogging & what requirements will make you a succesfull Vlogger. Now before i start, i know most of you will probably be wondering: "you don't even vlog yourself so how can you be giving others advice?". Good point, simply put it this way, if my advice makes sense to you, then believe me when i say "I am right". And if it doesn't...then just completely ignore this blog!
What will make you a good & successfull vlogger?
1 - Money & Life Style
If you have money, cars and you live in a luxury city like Dubai, then you are already meeting half the criteria necessary to get somewhere with vlogging. At first you don't even have to be good or a naturally talented vlogger, this is something that will come to you with time. You'll get used to speaking to the camera (your audience) and you'll get better at it as time goes by.
Another thing to note is that, the majority of the time, i mean seriously, thee majority of the time, it is always sunny in Dubai which means, you don't have to worry about the rain damaging your camera or bad sound quality. Finally, unlike most cities (tourist cities) in the world, Dubai has a lot more to offer, from the skyscapers to the massive sea aquarium, the man-made islands to the luxury cars.
People that are on Youtube look for:
Interesting Videos - why? Because we as humans are always curious and intrigued about stuff we don't know about. We like finding out and learning new things we've never come across before. Like seriously, who else has ended up watching some random video on YouTube in the middle of the night.
Things that are hard to get by - How often do you see a Bugatti on the streets? Luxury lifestyle?
Their dreams - The easiest way to put this is: "The American Dream". Watching other people live that lifestyle allows us to envision and see what people living the American dream are like. Just like a young footballers dreams of winning the World Cup, this is something more relatable to people.
2 - Appearance & Personality
I'm sure the majority of people reading this will know who Adam Saleh, Ace Family & Chantel Jeffries are. Social media platforms such as Instagram are the perfect way to increase your views and subscribers. Social media fame is actually more straightforward then you think: if you are physically attractive, if you show the world you are living a perfect life, then you're already halfway there. Instagram and YouTube are platforms that are more similar then most people think. We as humans become intrigued in other people's lives, especially if they are living a lifestyle that you have always dreamed of: rich, beautiful partner etc.
It really isn't that difficult, ask yourself and think, have you ever seen someone on instagram and become intrigued and curious about them. You'll visit their profile, you'll scroll down, looking at the pictures/videos they have uploaded, you read the captions they have posted, you read some of the comments, you become intrigued. This can either be because of their personal appearance, the lifestyle they portray to have etc. You find yourself wanting to know more about this person. Now every person will have this, some more then others of-course.
How does this link to vlogging? Simply, if someone is intrigued because of your personality or physical appearance you will do well at vlogging...believe me.
3 - Existing Fanbase
If you're a comedian and make funny content such as King Bach, if you make amazing assassins creed videos like Devin or if you were in a band at one point like Saffron, then you're guaranteed to do well at vlogging. An existing fanbase guarantees you with pretty much most things. Whether you're starting your own clothing line, whether you're writing a book, releasing your own music, the list goes on. Why? Its self explanatory, you already have a bunch of people that recognise your work, your talent and like your videos, it's natural they will want to support you with other things. Either because they are a big fan, or because they want attention from you e.g. the hundreds of people tweeting YouTubers for a simple Retweet or like.
Typically YouTubers with more then 100k subscribers will do alright at vlogging, slowly building up their vlogging channel alongside their main YouTube channel. Youtubers with atleast 1 Million subscribers however will most definitely see progress immediately.
4 - Unique & Different
This one is difficult, if you're a rising good YouTuber that creates unique videos or if you climb Wembley stadium then you're bound to do well at vlogging. Why? Well how often do you see someone climb Wembley stadium or sky scrapers? Nightscape is a young YouTuber who vlogs his climbing journey to the top. Why does he do well? Good camera equipment, good footage, good editing, great speaker and the journey from start to end of how someone even begins to climb a skyscraper is something that interests us because we don't see it much.
What's the Verdict?
So there you have it, those are some of many reasons on how you will become a good, popular vlogger. But don't take my word for it, i mean i haven't started vlogging. But, if what you have read makes sense, then we're both on the same page. My advice to those wanting to start vlogging, DON'T :) The only time you should start vlogging is if you HONESTLY:
-Live an interesting, luxury, rich life style
-If you have an existing fanbase already
-If you're different and are good at creating creative content
-If you are GENUINELY someone who will be interesting to watch on daily/weekly vlogs. People from Europe will want to know what the lifestyle in Africa, Asia, North/South America etc. is like and vice versa people in Asia are curious on what Europe is like. If you are a vlogger who travels (which is what i am planning to do), then you may have a good chance.
Thank you for reading & have a blessed new year! :)
